Design, Print, Repeat 2/2: Make a Phone Holder — 3D Printing for Beginners

The second session of the two-part 3D printing workshop for beginners. We move on to a new project: a phone holder. Through hands-on work, you’ll see how model orientation and basic settings affect print quality and success. This session is designed as a continuation of the series and builds on knowledge gained from the previous day’s workshop.

About This Workshop

Science Through Practice

In the first workshop, you designed and printed a personalized nameplate. In the second workshop, we go a step further: learning to modify results and control quality. In the introduction, we analyze what affects printing (orientation, bed contact, supports), then immediately apply it to a new project.

The project is a phone holder — simple enough to be beginner-friendly, yet “real” enough to teach you rules that carry over to all future models.

What You’ll Learn?

  • How to connect the finished object’s appearance with preparation decisions.
  • How to choose orientation and when to use supports.
  • How to prepare a phone holder for printing and estimate duration.

Why Sign Up?

  • You’ll learn through a real example and immediately see how design choices affect the final product.
  • You’ll leave with a printed phone holder (or information on when and how to pick it up) and clear rules for future projects.

Note About Printing

Depending on available time, phone holders may be printed during the workshop or after the session. If 3D printing takes longer than the workshop duration, we’ll arrange pickup as soon as possible.

About the Instructor

The workshop is led by Miloš Rašić, M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. With a focus on robotics and biotech, Miloš bridges the worlds of hardware and software to help participants understand the development process of advanced technological products. Through extensive experience working with industrial drones, robotic systems, and telemedicine, he demonstrates how engineering theory translates into functional innovations and successful startup projects.
