Build Your Own Neural Gadget

Discover how your brain works through interactive, hands-on experiments. Record real neuron activity, measure reaction times, and even control devices using bioelectric signals. Accessible to all skill levels, this workshop makes neuroscience engaging, fun, and unforgettable.

About This Workshop

Discover the Brain in Action

Your brain is the most complex organ in the known universe — but it doesn’t have to stay a mystery. This engaging workshop brings neuroscience out of the lab and into your hands. Whether you’re 12 or 72, you’ll explore the fundamentals of how neurons work, how they communicate, and how those tiny electrical signals control everything you think, feel, and do.

From Theory to Practice

Forget dry textbook diagrams — here, you’ll become the scientist. Using Backyard Brains’ easy-to-use, research-grade tools, you’ll collect real data from living neurons, run interactive experiments, and watch brain signals appear right before your eyes on a screen. It’s neuroscience you can see, hear, and control.

Experiments You’ll Try

  • Record real neuron activity from yourself or your classmates.
  • Measure your reaction times and compare them with others.
  • Control devices or muscles using your own bioelectric signals.
  • Explore how the brain processes sensory input and sends commands to the body.

For All Skill Levels

No prior experience? No problem. We guide you through each experiment step by step, ensuring you understand not just the “how,” but also the “why” behind every observation. This is an open invitation to students, educators, hobbyists, and the simply curious.

Why It Matters

Understanding how your brain works changes how you see yourself and the world. This workshop will leave you with a deeper appreciation for the beauty and complexity of biology — and maybe even inspire you to pursue neuroscience further.

Hands-On Experiments With Your Own Mind
October 23, 2025 — 18:00–20:00

What if you could feel your brain constructing reality in real time? In this hands-on workshop, you’ll step inside the strange illusions that reveal how consciousness works. Using only simple tools, we’ll trick the brain into believing your nose is growing, show how your body map can be bent and stretched, and explore online experiments that prove we unconsciously sense eye gaze as a real force. By the end, you won’t just understand the science of consciousness — you’ll have experienced it yourself.
