Design, Print, Repeat 1/2: Personalized Desk Nameplate — 3D Printing for Beginners

A practical introductory 3D printing workshop for complete beginners. In the first workshop, you’ll create a simple model (a personalized desk nameplate), prepare it for printing, and start printing during the workshop. If printing isn’t complete by the end of the session, you’ll pick up the nameplates at the second workshop. The workshop is designed as a two-part series — we recommend attending both sessions.

About This Workshop

From “I’ve never seen a 3D printer” to “my model is ready to print”

This is a practical introductory 3D printing workshop for complete beginners. The goal of day one is simple: for everyone to create a small printable object and prepare it for 3D printing.

We’ll start with a quick trial example so you can immediately see what the printing process looks like and what to pay attention to. Then everyone prepares their own small object: a personalized desk nameplate, customized with your text and style. Finally, we’ll print the first projects together during the workshop.

On the first workshop, we’ll start printing (trial example and first projects). If some objects aren’t finished by the end of the session, you’ll pick them up at the second workshop.

What You’ll Learn on Day 1?

  • FDM 3D printing basics (short and clear): what the printer does, what filament is, and how an object is created layer by layer.
  • Complete process live: model modification → export → slicing → sending to printer.
  • Design rules for reliable printing: how to create a model that prints quickly and stably (without complicated settings).
  • Project: you’ll create a personalized desk nameplate.

Important: This is a two-part workshop. Please register and attend both sessions (January 14th and 15th) to complete the experience.

Why Sign Up?

  • For beginners: no prior knowledge of CAD or 3D printing required.
  • Concrete result: you’ll leave with knowledge and a file ready to print, and pick up the finished object at the next workshop.
  • Practical and clear: you’ll see the entire workflow — from idea to 3D print.

How Will Projects Be Printed?

We’ll start printing at the first workshop. If some objects aren’t finished by the end of the session, you’ll pick them up the next day.

To keep things faster and more reliable, we’ll print in one filament color, which we’ll choose by a quick vote at the start.

About the Instructor

The workshop is led by Miloš Rašić, M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. With a focus on robotics and biotech, Miloš bridges the worlds of hardware and software to help participants understand the development process of advanced technological products. Through extensive experience working with industrial drones, robotic systems, and telemedicine, he demonstrates how engineering theory translates into functional innovations and successful startup projects.
