Backyard Brains' OpenLab Series 4/4: When Your Results Find Their Voice – Present Your Discovery

How do you present your scientific discovery in the best possible way?

Welcome to the grand finale of the Backyard Brains’ OpenLab series (November 24 & 27, December 1 & 4, 2025). Designed to guide you through the entire research process, this final workshop brings you to its centerpiece: the public presentation of your work.

About This Workshop

About the Instructor

The workshop is led by Aleksa Vasić, M.Sc. in Biology. As a passionate science communicator, Aleksa blends biology, neuroscience, and technology to make modern scientific discoveries accessible to everyone. Through hands-on demonstrations, he reveals how the electrical signals that control our bodies can be observed, measured, and interpreted using simple tools.

How Do You Present Your Scientific Work?

In science, getting results is only half the journey, knowing how to present them is just as important.
In this concluding workshop, you will complete your scientific poster, step onto the “scientific stage,” present your analyses, discuss your findings, and bring your story of the electrical body full circle.

Learning Science Through Practice

We’ll focus on how to communicate scientific ideas clearly, effectively, and convincingly.
You will finalize your posters (title, results, and discussion) and then present your research to fellow participants. Together, we will walk through the entire arc, from the spark of curiosity to the final conclusion, strengthening your ability to defend your findings with confidence and solid reasoning.

Why Join?

This workshop blends neuroscience, biology, and engineering in an accessible, engaging, and interactive format. You will gain valuable experience in public speaking and have the opportunity to showcase a successfully completed scientific project you can be proud of!

Backyard Brains OpenLab Series 2/5: Catch an Action Potential!
December 15, 2025 — 18:00–20:00

Through hands-on work with the Neuron SpikerBox, you will discover what a real action potential (nerve impulse) looks like and how a simple stimulus can completely change a neuron’s behavior. You will notice surprising similarities between our own nervous system and that of invertebrates.

Backyard Brains OpenLab Series 3/5: Who’s in Control Here?!
December 17, 2025 — 18:00–20:00

Discover how one person’s electrical signals can control the movements of another, an experience that is scientific, technological, and deeply personal all at once. And no, it’s not telepathy! By working with the Human-to-Human Interface system, you will take part in one of the most exciting experiments in the entire series: controlling another person using […]

Backyard Brains OpenLab Series 4/5: Faster Than Lightning? How Fast Is Our Nervous System?
December 18, 2025 — 18:00–20:00

Do you react faster to sound or light? What happens when you need to ignore some signals and respond to others? In this workshop, you will test the speed of your nervous system and explore how different stimuli affect your reaction time. Through a series of short, high-intensity experiments, you will examine how the brain […]

Backyard Brains OpenLab Series 5/5: From Impulse to Invention – Become a Bioengineer
December 22, 2025 — 18:00–20:00

This is the grand finale of the series, the moment when your biological signals become creative material. In this workshop, you will design and build your own interactive project: from EMG-controlled light installations, to neurofeedback soundscapes, to performances in which one participant influences another through their biological signals. This is a laboratory where ideas turn […]
