DNA Under the Microscope: Mini School of Gene Therapy

Gene therapy is no longer science fiction, it is a rapidly evolving field reshaping how we understand and treat disease. This workshop opens the door to a world in which DNA is not only read but also repaired. It is designed for anyone curious about what modern biotechnology can truly achieve today.

About This Workshop

About the Lecturer

Milica Jeličić is a molecular biologist specializing in cutting-edge gene-editing technologies and their future applications in medicine. She graduated from the Faculty of Biology in Belgrade, where she developed a passion for genetics and for understanding how small changes in DNA can have a profound impact on human health.

She completed her Master’s studies at the Center for Human Genetics, focusing on mutations underlying hereditary neurodegenerative and muscular disorders.

Milica earned her PhD in Dresden, Germany, where she explored genetic engineering and gene therapy. She has worked on projects utilizing CRISPR, recombinases, and base and prime editors to better understand and correct inherited and complex diseases. Her mission is clear: to bring advanced genetics closer to the public and encourage responsible, ethical use of gene therapy.

What Will You Learn?

This workshop takes you into the exciting world of gene therapy and gene editing through a clear, interactive, and accessible introduction to modern biotechnology. Together, we will explore how DNA can be “repaired,” what tools like CRISPR actually do, and how these systems are being used to fight inherited diseases and cancer.
Through real research examples and straightforward explanations, you will gain insight into how this transformative science works, and why it is essential for everyone, not just scientists, to understand it as medicine moves into the future.

Why Join?

If you want to understand what it truly means to “fix” a gene, how the logic of modern biomedical research works, and what the next decades of medicine may bring, this workshop is the perfect place to start. It offers a clearly structured, interactive session that opens up a complex but crucial topic in a way that is accessible, relevant, and engaging for all.
